Going into your freshman year of college is something every freshmen is nervous, excited and anxious about. When I got to Texas A&M University, I knew I was going to meet some amazing people but I had no idea what kind of impact they would have on me. I applied for MSC FISH, a freshman leadership organization, at Texas A&M and got it! This organization led me to meet my best friends. Luke was this adorable, blonde boy who always had a smile on his face! He was always so helpful, so nice and most of all full of life. He was always living to the fullest and I admired that so much about him. Luke truly was the one who brought FISH together. He always planned things, always wanted to see everyone and really got us to become how close we are today. One night all of our friends were together and we were talking about chemistry. He had a huge test the next day and he was looking over his notes so calmly. I looked at him in amazement because I could never be so calm about a really hard test. I just had to sit back and laugh at him because he was so bright yet..so much fun! A quality I think every college student wants to have during exams! He was so positive about everything. Even when someone tried to steal his "administrative" title on our Facebook page, he said stop in such a nice, and funny Luke way! He would make these comments that would just make you smile all over. My favorite was when he would say "dude" or "bro" or trying to race making bags at BackPack Program. Another thing I loved about Luke was how supportive and loving he was. Having a friends approval of your boyfriend and girlfriend is always something you want. I introduced my boyfriend of four years to FISH, all of them were super nice but Luke reached out more than others. He kept telling me how cool he was and he wants him to come around more. To have Luke's approval made me feel so excited and at ease. I think everyone felt that way someway or another around Luke.
One time Luke's little brother was coming to visit him in College Station. We talked about him forever and Luke had the biggest smile on his face the entire time. I could tell how excited he was to show his brother around and that made me smile. I now know why he was so happy after meeting his family. I have respected Luke since the day I met him, but now it is on a whole different level. To know how many lives he has impacted is so inspiring. My life has changed so much after that day I got the phone call. I wish we could have made more memories together but I know he is having a blast up there. Luke was the one who brought us together as an organization and friends and he has continued to bring us closer as a family. I have gotten closer to so many people and have had so much fun because I know Luke wants us to. I have learned the true definition of "living." Although every day there is sadness, I will continue to live my life with a spirit likeLuke's through friends, service, Aggie spirit, relationships, and most of all happiness.
